Shark Cage Diving

Activity Description

All trips are weather and tide dependant and launch times may vary accordingly from those stated. Your launch time will be confirmed the day before.

Unlike bungy jumping or sky diving, the adrenaline rush from shark cage diving comes from being face to face with one of the world’s greatest predators: the Great White Shark.

The experience puts you in their territory while the safety of the activity allows you to be an observer and learn what Great White Sharks are really like. An on board marine biologist will educate you about this amazing apex predator.

Shark Cage Diving is safe for children and elders and gives the whole family a wonderful opportunity to bond in a fun environment surrounded by experts and researchers.

After this once in a life time experience, you’ll find yourself buzzing with excitement and adrenaline. You will have had the opportunity to come up close and personal with one of the oceans most majestic and foreboding creatures.

Here is a brief breakdown of what to expect once you arrive:
• Before the trip guests meet at THE GREAT WHITE HOUSE in Kleinbaai
• You will receive breakfast or lunch and register your wetsuit size
• Guests receive a pre-trip safety briefing about what to expect during the trip and a biological background on great white sharks
• We then take a 200m stroll down to the harbour to board Slashfin
• Travel time to Dyer Island is approximately 20 minutes, with the shallows being a short 10 minute ride (where we anchor depends on where the sharks are)
• On average, we anchor for 2 hours, but this depends on shark activity, conditions, as well as number of divers
• Weather permitting, we take a quick trip through the infamous Shark Alley
• Lastly, a debrief in the Great White House and a celebratory beverage to toast the occasion!

Why We Are Different:
• A dedicated marine biologist on board every trip
• Our Boat (Slashfin) is the largest in the industry (most deck space per customer) and was purposely built for shark cage diving and includes two restrooms, and an upper deck for the ultimate viewing and photography experience when not in the cage.
• A fully licensed Restaurant and Crew House, aptly named the GREAT WHITE HOUSE, which includes facilities such as: 2 marine rooms where professional safety and informative briefings are given before each trip + separate ladies/gents/handicap restroom facilities with a 5-star rating + curio shop
• We guarantee clean, dry wetsuits (a rarity in the industry)
• Our crew receives as many compliments as the Great White Sharks, with more combined experience than any other Shark Cage Diving crew.
• You will leave with great memories and a deep appreciation of this majestic animal.

Customer Reviews

I had an awesome experience and thoroughly enjoyed the shark cage diving - I thought I'd be scared but I wasn't and it was just an amazing experience - the staff were very helpful when we had to put on the wetsuits - it was quite a humerous experience! We were treated with a nice meal (of which I didn't participate as I wasn't sure whether I'd get sea sick) beforehand and which most people seemed to enjoy. We received a nice cup of hot chocolate once we exited the cage and all of this was very enjoyable. I am South African and live in the UK and as I'm quite adventurous and had never done this before, this was something on my bucket list and now having done it, I sure would recommend it to anyone even the ones who are fearful because there really is nothing to be fearful about if you obey the rules, i.e. not to stick your hands out of the cage. - Stéphanie Carter

Excellent trip with a lot of copper sharks in the area. Sadly no Great Whites but a fab experience again with Marine Dynamics - Lisa Manley

Well I have been able to tick off another item on my bucket list. Being a diver and the many accounts of diving with the raggies at Aliwal Shoal and Sodwana, it was a bit disapointing to find out about the Orca intervention. A siting of a great white would have been the cherry on top. But regarding the trip, it was a pity that the weather was a bit rough, with my tendency to sea sickness, I did not fair too well. I did however get to see the Bronzies but found the mask, that kept filling up with water and the banging of the cage on the boat a bit stressful. The staff were awesome and very helpful and knowledgeable. I must admit I was very happy to get back onto terra firma. But maybe I will be lucky enough to have another chance when the weather is a bit better. Thanks - Val Millen

We had a great time observing the sharks with Marine Dynamics. The staff and marine biologists were extremely knowledgable and friendly. Our kids were fascinated by the stories and information provided. Even our 6 year old got in the cage and observed the sharks from close up. What an experience! - Andreas

We had an amazing trip. The crew were so helpful, enthusiastic and knowledgable. Marine Dynamics really care about the sharks and the ocean and treat both wuth respect. We had children with us who were scared before they got on the boat but in the professional hands of the crew they had an amazing up close experience with the sharks. They were enthralled not frightened. Thank you. Highly recommend Marine Dynamics. - Susan Howe
