Shark Cage Diving

Activity Description

All trips are weather and tide dependant and launch times may vary accordingly from those stated. Your launch time will be confirmed the day before.

Unlike bungy jumping or sky diving, the adrenaline rush from shark cage diving comes from being face to face with one of the world’s greatest predators: the Great White Shark.

The experience puts you in their territory while the safety of the activity allows you to be an observer and learn what Great White Sharks are really like. An on board marine biologist will educate you about this amazing apex predator.

Shark Cage Diving is safe for children and elders and gives the whole family a wonderful opportunity to bond in a fun environment surrounded by experts and researchers.

After this once in a life time experience, you’ll find yourself buzzing with excitement and adrenaline. You will have had the opportunity to come up close and personal with one of the oceans most majestic and foreboding creatures.

Here is a brief breakdown of what to expect once you arrive:
• Before the trip guests meet at THE GREAT WHITE HOUSE in Kleinbaai
• You will receive breakfast or lunch and register your wetsuit size
• Guests receive a pre-trip safety briefing about what to expect during the trip and a biological background on great white sharks
• We then take a 200m stroll down to the harbour to board Slashfin
• Travel time to Dyer Island is approximately 20 minutes, with the shallows being a short 10 minute ride (where we anchor depends on where the sharks are)
• On average, we anchor for 2 hours, but this depends on shark activity, conditions, as well as number of divers
• Weather permitting, we take a quick trip through the infamous Shark Alley
• Lastly, a debrief in the Great White House and a celebratory beverage to toast the occasion!

Why We Are Different:
• A dedicated marine biologist on board every trip
• Our Boat (Slashfin) is the largest in the industry (most deck space per customer) and was purposely built for shark cage diving and includes two restrooms, and an upper deck for the ultimate viewing and photography experience when not in the cage.
• A fully licensed Restaurant and Crew House, aptly named the GREAT WHITE HOUSE, which includes facilities such as: 2 marine rooms where professional safety and informative briefings are given before each trip + separate ladies/gents/handicap restroom facilities with a 5-star rating + curio shop
• We guarantee clean, dry wetsuits (a rarity in the industry)
• Our crew receives as many compliments as the Great White Sharks, with more combined experience than any other Shark Cage Diving crew.
• You will leave with great memories and a deep appreciation of this majestic animal.

Customer Reviews

We had a fantastic time while out on the dive. The sea was really rough, so a lot of people were getting sick. However, we had a great time seeing all three sharks. All staff were very professional and had answers to most questions. We never felt unsafe or like we missed out on any sightings. - Doug Garnett-Deakin

We had a fantastic shark cage diving trip with Marine Dynamics! Great customer service from booking through to the entire experience. The boat crew was great and we learnt lots about the sharks with the marine biologist on board. The experience of seeing the sharks was surreal, we were lucky to see 7 of them with the largest being almost 5m. Safety was their highest priority and we felt well taken care of during the entire trip. Very professional crew, great boat and good quality equipment. Would highly recommend Marine Dynamics to anyone looking for shark cage diving around Gaansbai! We will be back :) - Sandra J

Great time even without sharks We planned our entire South Africa trip around the best time to see sharks in Gansbaai so we were naturally quite disappointed when we saw no sharks on either of our two trips with Marine Dynamics. However the service they provide and the good cause you are supporting by booking a cage dive with them and the huge amount of information we got on sharks and their behaviour from the marine biologist was still worth it. Since this activity involves wild animals one can be under no illusion that it is possible you might see absolutely nothing so my 5 star review is based on the efficiency of the staff (the volunteers were always on hand to help with wet suits, hot drinks and blankets etc to make us comfortable on the boat), the competency of the marine biologist, the amenities, the quality of the equipment provided (boat, wet suits, boots etc), the refreshments provided before and after the trip and also the fact that you are provided with a voucher for another dive if you see nothing on your first trip. The voucher is a life time voucher so never expires. When we saw nothing on our first trip we were able to book another one for the very next morning as the early trip wasn't fully booked. We had initially only booked one night in our guest house in Hermanus but spontaneously decided to stay an extra night and give the sharks another go the next morning. At the end of each trip they took us out to the seal colony, Shark Alley and Dyer Island (you don't go on it you just see it from the boat) which was interesting as well. If you are into sharks and like supporting good causes and marine research you can't go wrong with Marine Dynamics. - Ronan Brandon

The experience was unique and unlike any other I have had in the water so far in my life. Tizian and I enjoyed it so much, we just really look forward also to having a look at the video of the experience! I am eagerly awaiting the video link... I belive it should have been sent a few days after our cagedive? Thank you for the awesome memory. I hope shark conservation efforts are successful now and in the future. Kindest regards Margaux - Margaux Fouche

Great experience with great people. Marine dynamics with its marine biologists does make a difference - Matthias Fuchsschwanz
