Shark Cage Diving

Gansbaai

Activity Description

All trips are weather and tide dependant and launch times may vary accordingly from those stated. Your launch time will be confirmed the day before.

Unlike bungy jumping or sky diving, the adrenaline rush from shark cage diving comes from being face to face with one of the world’s greatest predators: the Great White Shark.

The experience puts you in their territory while the safety of the activity allows you to be an observer and learn what Great White Sharks are really like. An on board marine biologist will educate you about this amazing apex predator.

Shark Cage Diving is safe for children and elders and gives the whole family a wonderful opportunity to bond in a fun environment surrounded by experts and researchers.

After this once in a life time experience, you’ll find yourself buzzing with excitement and adrenaline. You will have had the opportunity to come up close and personal with one of the oceans most majestic and foreboding creatures.

Here is a brief breakdown of what to expect once you arrive:
• Before the trip guests meet at THE GREAT WHITE HOUSE in Kleinbaai
• You will receive breakfast or lunch and register your wetsuit size
• Guests receive a pre-trip safety briefing about what to expect during the trip and a biological background on great white sharks
• We then take a 200m stroll down to the harbour to board Slashfin
• Travel time to Dyer Island is approximately 20 minutes, with the shallows being a short 10 minute ride (where we anchor depends on where the sharks are)
• On average, we anchor for 2 hours, but this depends on shark activity, conditions, as well as number of divers
• Weather permitting, we take a quick trip through the infamous Shark Alley
• Lastly, a debrief in the Great White House and a celebratory beverage to toast the occasion!

Why We Are Different:
• A dedicated marine biologist on board every trip
• Our Boat (Slashfin) is the largest in the industry (most deck space per customer) and was purposely built for shark cage diving and includes two restrooms, and an upper deck for the ultimate viewing and photography experience when not in the cage.
• A fully licensed Restaurant and Crew House, aptly named the GREAT WHITE HOUSE, which includes facilities such as: 2 marine rooms where professional safety and informative briefings are given before each trip + separate ladies/gents/handicap restroom facilities with a 5-star rating + curio shop
• We guarantee clean, dry wetsuits (a rarity in the industry)
• Our crew receives as many compliments as the Great White Sharks, with more combined experience than any other Shark Cage Diving crew.
• You will leave with great memories and a deep appreciation of this majestic animal.

Customer Reviews

What can I say. When we went out to sea at an early hour on October, 1 2017 the signs were not very hopeful. Looking at the blogs the last couple of weeks, chances were we would not see any shark. Orca's and bad weather were the main causes. Although we didn't want to hear it, the team in charge was warning us by honestly saying that we can't force nature and that the chances were that..... Well, to keep a long story short: After 5 minutes the first small white shark announced herself. 2 hours and 2 cage entries later we saw 5 ! white sharks. Awesome ! We were very lucky and I tend to believe we've earned it. Aside the sharks, a big compliment to the crew, the clear communication, the good, stable and clean boat called the Slashfin, the good breakfast and the nice video (free when you book on-line). Since the nature of the organization is one with sustainability in the vanes and the professional guidance by the biologist Kelly Baker is has added value I can say that if you want to tick off your bucket list item regarding white shark cage diving you should go to Gansbaai and make use of the services of Marine Dynamics ! - Werner Sterker

I have been on dive boats many times and have never been served as well as on this boat and in the shark cage. Your staff was extremely warm and engaging continually looking for a way to serve those of us on the boat. Because the water was cold, your staff took individual orders for a hot drink and had them ready immediately when we exited the water. They quickly came to our assistance when we began to take our wet suits off. In addition, we saw a number of sharks including a great white shark . . . wow! I would recommend this experience to anyone! Being served breakfast and lunch was a bonus as well as the excellent information regarding the need to support your efforts to save the sharks. - Larry Russell

The day from start to finish was great. Friendly team of staff to welcome us who were happy to share their knowledge of, and enthusiasm for marine biology and sharks in particular. The trip out to the drop point was fine and once their we spend a good amount of time which enabled everyone to get a good slot in the cage. With a final recap of what we saw and bowl of soup waiting for us the trip was a great experience and one I would encourage others to undertake. Cheers! - Nathan Tagg

Reception, and information/instruction were very good. Great trip on a fast and stable boat with good equipment. We were lucky to see a few great Whites and quite a few smaller sharks. All in all a great experience and (to my surprise)no stress at al before entering the cage, due to the extensive, information and calm behaviour of the crew. - Tjeerd Martin

Dive - 27/10/2017 I had one of the best days of my life cage diving with Great Whites with Marine Dynamics in Gansbaai. I had done a lot of research before choosing a company to do the dive with and I'm glad I went with Marine Dynamics. It's something I've wanted to do since I was very young so expectations were high, but I'm very glad to say they were completely met, if not exceeded. The guys took good care of us from the start and gave great information throughout the day about the sharks, their behaviours and the bigger picture crisis they face. We saw two White Sharks a Copper Shark and a short tailed stingray and it was all just incredible. I never felt scared once. I thought I might but it felt very safe throughout. When in the cage and the sharks breached it was completely exhilarating and felt like such an honour to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. The ear to ear smile on my face stayed there for days! :) Thank you for such an incredible experience and for giving these amazing creatures a voice. Clare and Michael (Glasgow, Scotland) ps I'd be really keen to speak to any others who were on the same trip as us (27th Oct at 11am), to see if we could share footage. We were last in the cage and there was in incredible moment where a White Shark glided past the cage on its side showing it's underside and fin out the water. We missed it on the go pro as my boyfriend went underwater and you couldn't really see it from there. There was an amazing view from above water though and I hoped to get in touch with the young English couple who were in the cage beside us who also had a go pro in the hope they might have caught it. If you could help, that would be amazing! (It's the guy on the right in the pic on the boat attached). Thanks again! - Clare McTaggart
