Shark Cage Diving

Activity Description

All trips are weather and tide dependant and launch times may vary accordingly from those stated. Your launch time will be confirmed the day before.

Unlike bungy jumping or sky diving, the adrenaline rush from shark cage diving comes from being face to face with one of the world’s greatest predators: the Great White Shark.

The experience puts you in their territory while the safety of the activity allows you to be an observer and learn what Great White Sharks are really like. An on board marine biologist will educate you about this amazing apex predator.

Shark Cage Diving is safe for children and elders and gives the whole family a wonderful opportunity to bond in a fun environment surrounded by experts and researchers.

After this once in a life time experience, you’ll find yourself buzzing with excitement and adrenaline. You will have had the opportunity to come up close and personal with one of the oceans most majestic and foreboding creatures.

Here is a brief breakdown of what to expect once you arrive:
• Before the trip guests meet at THE GREAT WHITE HOUSE in Kleinbaai
• You will receive breakfast or lunch and register your wetsuit size
• Guests receive a pre-trip safety briefing about what to expect during the trip and a biological background on great white sharks
• We then take a 200m stroll down to the harbour to board Slashfin
• Travel time to Dyer Island is approximately 20 minutes, with the shallows being a short 10 minute ride (where we anchor depends on where the sharks are)
• On average, we anchor for 2 hours, but this depends on shark activity, conditions, as well as number of divers
• Weather permitting, we take a quick trip through the infamous Shark Alley
• Lastly, a debrief in the Great White House and a celebratory beverage to toast the occasion!

Why We Are Different:
• A dedicated marine biologist on board every trip
• Our Boat (Slashfin) is the largest in the industry (most deck space per customer) and was purposely built for shark cage diving and includes two restrooms, and an upper deck for the ultimate viewing and photography experience when not in the cage.
• A fully licensed Restaurant and Crew House, aptly named the GREAT WHITE HOUSE, which includes facilities such as: 2 marine rooms where professional safety and informative briefings are given before each trip + separate ladies/gents/handicap restroom facilities with a 5-star rating + curio shop
• We guarantee clean, dry wetsuits (a rarity in the industry)
• Our crew receives as many compliments as the Great White Sharks, with more combined experience than any other Shark Cage Diving crew.
• You will leave with great memories and a deep appreciation of this majestic animal.

Customer Reviews

We had a fantastic experience with Marine Dynamics! Our group (3 couples) had showed up at 10 am, which had been the initial time, however when we arrived at the meeting place, we were informed that the time had been made earlier (9 am) so we missed our boat. (Disclaimer - when we initially booked, we were warned that times were subject to change. Marine Dynamics did attempt to contact us the day before via phone and email. Being from out of country, we did not have our cell phones turned on, and the hotel we stayed at the night prior had troubles with their wifi, so we were unable to check emails.) Marine Dynamics were able to arrange for us to go on the boat at Noon, which was fantastic and so appreciated since we were only in the area for that 1 day. We were provided food before and after the boat experience, which was good. Boat experience itself was fantastic. Felt safe. A little rocky, but we had taken medication prior to our trip for that reason. It only took about 15 minutes to get to the spot we were going, and we started to see small copper sharks before we even got our wet suits on! about halfway into our time out on the water, a great white shark came to say hello! The staff were all very excited because that was the first GW seen in about 3 weeks. They accommodated those of us who wanted to get back in the cage for the 2nd time to see the GW underwater. Unfortunately, we could see very far in the water that day, so we did not see the GW while in the cage even though she was around the boat. The best viewing of the GW was from the boat that day. Overall excellent experience and would definitely recommend - Our husbands are still taking about it 2 weeks later! - Sarah Bishop

We were only in Gansbaai for an afternoon and a morning so we booked two trips in case one was cancelled due to weather. We ended up going out on both trips and it was amazing. We saw great whites both times, which was lucky as many people saw nothing in the previous weeks. The view from the boat was actually better than being in the water as the visibility in the water is pretty short. We didn't know that in advance, but it didn't detract from the experience. The whole experience felt very safe and controlled. Having seen the other boats leaving the dock, I definitely felt we'd chosen the best tour. - Alison Woodall

Excellent facilities, easy location and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. It was clear all the staff cared greatly for the sharks. We didn’t see any great whites, not that the company can hold any blame about that, but we did see other large sharks and all members of the trip were given an equal chance to experience them underwater. They provided more than enough food and drink for the trip and their equipment was of a good standard. I’d definitley recommend them to y friends. Thanks for a great experience. - Daniel Hook

We had a fun experience with Marine Dynamics, even though we didn't see any great whites-- just a copper shark spotting. That was still neat, though, and two out of the three of the dive groups seemed to get really nice, up-close looks at the shark that was there. Unfortunately, we were in the one group that didn't see much underwater, which made our time in the cage pretty underwhelming. We know you can't control what the sharks do or where they go, and you certainly can't control the orcas that are biting the livers out of the great whites. Thanks for working to raise awareness on sharks and shark conservation-- hopefully by supporting your organization, we can help protect these awesome animals for future generations (or, at least long enough for us to see a great white someday!) - Kirstin Schoeninger & Shawn Hill
