Shark Cage Diving with RETURN Transfer from Hermanus

Gansbaai

Activity Description

All trips are weather and tide dependant and launch times may vary accordingly from those stated. Your launch time will be confirmed the day before.
Marine Dynamics enjoys sightings of copper sharks (bronze whalers), visiting great white sharks and even the occasional stingray at our vessel. Great White Shark behaviour is less predictable post orca predation in 2017. Daily blog of sightings is available. All content on our website is the property of Marine Dynamics.

Please note that the Conservation Fee is compulsory. Please check the Add-on and specify the number of adults and children during the booking process. The booking will not be successful if this add-on is not selected and accounted for all members in the group.

Unlike bungy jumping or sky diving, the adrenaline rush from shark cage diving comes from being face to face with our ocean’s top predators.

The experience puts you in their territory while the safety of the activity allows you to be an observer and learn what these sharks are really like. An onboard marine biologist will educate you about these amazing predators.

Shark Cage Diving is safe for children and elders and gives the whole family a wonderful opportunity to bond in a fun environment surrounded by experts and researchers.

After this once in a life time experience, you’ll find yourself buzzing with excitement and adrenaline. You will have had the opportunity to come up close and personal with one of the oceans most majestic and foreboding creatures.

Here is a brief breakdown of what to expect once you arrive:
• Before the trip guests meet at THE GREAT WHITE HOUSE in Kleinbaai
• You will receive breakfast or lunch and register your wetsuit size
• Guests receive a pre-trip safety briefing about what to expect during the trip and a biological background on great white sharks
• We then take a 200m stroll down to the harbour to board Slashfin
• Travel time to Dyer Island is approximately 20 minutes, with the shallows being a short 10 minute ride (where we anchor depends on where the sharks are)
• On average, we anchor for 2 hours, but this depends on shark activity, conditions, as well as number of divers
• Weather permitting, we take a quick trip through the infamous Shark Alley
• Lastly, a debrief in the Great White House and a celebratory beverage to toast the occasion!

Why We Are Different:
• A dedicated marine biologist on board every trip
• Our Boat (Slashfin) is the largest in the industry (most deck space per customer) and was purposely built for shark cage diving and includes two restrooms, and an upper deck for the ultimate viewing and photography experience when not in the cage.
• A fully licensed Restaurant and Crew House, aptly named the GREAT WHITE HOUSE, which includes facilities such as: 2 marine rooms where professional safety and informative briefings are given before each trip + separate ladies/gents/handicap restroom facilities with a 5-star rating + curio shop
• We guarantee clean, dry wetsuits (a rarity in the industry)
• Our crew receives as many compliments as the Great White Sharks, with more combined experience than any other Shark Cage Diving crew.
• You will leave with great memories and a deep appreciation of this majestic animal.

Thank you for paying the conservation fee, your money goes directly towards the Dyer Island Conservation Trust, enabling us to do research, monitoring, attend to marine animal strandings, rehabilitation- and marine conservation work. This would not be possible without your conservation fee. This fee ensures that the whales, sharks, dolphins, seals and African penguins of the Dyer Island Eco System, will be here, not only upon your return, but your children and grandchildren’s return.

Customer Reviews

I did two shark cage trips a week apart with Marine Dynamics. One while staying in Cape Town and the other while staying in Hermanus. They organised pick up and return to my hotels each time which was so helpful. Admittedly I was wanting to see a great white which was disappointing not to do. Though both times I saw plenty of bronze whalers. I had a shark come right up to the cage with its mouth wide open in front of my face which was exciting. On both trips I saw a shark breech out of the water. First time 50m away and second 3m from the boat. That is really exhilarating to witness! The staff were terrific - answered messages promptly (thanks Zezam!), helped me get my wetsuit on & off and getting me in & out of the cage. They will give you a towel to use after (and blanket if necessary) and get you a hot drink. The swell both trips was over 2m which can make you feel quite seasick if you are not used to it (there is ginger for that). You can get quite bumped around in the cage so hold on! The skipper was good, the boat travels fast bouncing over the waves which is fun in itself. There is a small shop at the premises where you can purchase t-shirts, key rings, bracelets and other bits and pieces. I purchased a fossilised great white tooth. Their emphasis is on conservation which is especially important these days. Thank you for such great trips out both times. - phillipa

Great day out and very interesting. Copper sharks were plentiful and a couple of stingrays turned up. Visibility wasn't the best but it's nature so that's just your luck. Great Whites are very rare and not seen for a few months so don't expect to see them. Very well organised and so safe. Thanks for a great day. - Martin

An unforgettable experience, both the excursion and the entire team. Always attentive to us and making sure everything was perfect. Thanks again for everything. - Inmaculada

I had a great time on a shark cage dive experience with Marine Dynamics. I have been very interested in sharks as long as I can remember. We weren't able to see a great white which is obviously what everyone dreams of seeing...but we had a morning full of very interested bronze whalers and a seal to see up close and personal. The staff was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. I would recommend this experience to anyone who loves sharks or to anyone looking to do something a little out of the ordinary. If I find myself back in South Africa I would definitely consider doing it again! - Andrew

Good day Marine Dynamics Thank you for your amazing 5-star service. The shark cage diving experience was extraordinary and me and Brian loved every minute of it. He couldn't stop smiling and talked all the way back to Hermanus about all the marine life he saw. I really enjoyed the breakfast and the educational on boat before I went in cage. Maybe next time you should mention that we should wear swimwear underneath our clothes. It's a pity that we had to go back to shore since me and Brian would've love to chat more to the bronzies. But I will definitely come for a second time, and I would recommend this to any brave and adventurous tourist. I look forward to seeing you soon. Kind regards - educatiaon7th
