Shark Cage Diving with RETURN Transfer from Cape Town

Gansbaai

Activity Description

All trips are weather and tide dependant and launch times may vary accordingly from those stated. Your launch time will be confirmed the day before.

Unlike bungee jumping or sky diving, the adrenaline rush from shark cage diving comes from being face to face with one of the world’s greatest predators: the Great White Shark.

The experience puts you in their territory while the safety of the activity allows you to be an observer and learn what Great White Sharks are really like. An on board marine biologist will educate you about this amazing apex predator.

Shark Cage Diving is safe for children and elders and gives the whole family a wonderful opportunity to bond in a fun environment surrounded by experts and researchers.

After this once in a life time experience, you’ll find yourself buzzing with excitement and adrenaline. You will have had the opportunity to come up close and personal with one of the oceans most majestic and foreboding creatures.

Here is a brief breakdown of what to expect once you arrive:
• Before the trip guests meet at THE GREAT WHITE HOUSE in Kleinbaai
• You will receive breakfast or lunch and register your wetsuit size
• Guests receive a pre-trip safety briefing about what to expect during the trip and a biological background on great white sharks
• We then take a 200m stroll down to the harbour to board Slashfin
• Travel time to Dyer Island is approximately 20 minutes, with the shallows being a short 10 minute ride (where we anchor depends on where the sharks are)
• On average, we anchor for 2 hours, but this depends on shark activity, conditions, as well as number of divers
• Weather permitting, we take a quick trip through the infamous Shark Alley
• Lastly, a debrief in the Great White House and a celebratory beverage to toast the occasion!

Why We Are Different:
• A dedicated marine biologist on board every trip
• Our Boat (Slashfin) is the largest in the industry (most deck space per customer) and was purposely built for shark cage diving and includes two restrooms, and an upper deck for the ultimate viewing and photography experience when not in the cage.
• A fully licensed Restaurant and Crew House, aptly named the GREAT WHITE HOUSE, which includes facilities such as: 2 marine rooms where professional safety and informative briefings are given before each trip + separate ladies/gents/handicap restroom facilities with a 5-star rating + curio shop
• We guarantee clean, dry wetsuits (a rarity in the industry)
• Our crew receives as many compliments as the Great White Sharks, with more combined experience than any other Shark Cage Diving crew.
• You will leave with great memories and a deep appreciation of this majestic animal.

Customer Reviews

This was an amazing experience for 2 of my party but the other 2 including myself had terrible sea sickness during the whole experience once the boat stopped to view the sharks. The trip from Cape Town took over 3 hours which wasn't evident when I booked this trip and when we arrived at Marine Dynamics we were given a lovely breakfast prior to our shark dive. Personally I think that it would be better to put on the wetsuits before the trip commences as it is very difficult to put on the wetsuit on a rocky boat. I couldn't even try to put on my wetsuit as I felt sea sick as soon as the boat stopped due to the motion of the boat. I had taken sea sickness tablets and even wore travel bands but this made no difference so if you are prone to sea sickness please avoid this trip. My friend however thoroughly enjoyed her shark experience and wouldn't hesitate to do it again. It was a total waste of £160 for me unfortunately. - Valerie Mantle

Extremely happy with the conservation and information side of everything! The crew were all very friendly and happy to help. - Jess Neale

A great day was had by my daughters and I. Whilst we did not encounter a great white the bronze sharks were a buzz. The team at Marine Dynamics we professional and their marine biologist very knowledgeable and informative. The teams environmental focus was impressive. Thank you Marine Dynamics - Gavin Holman

Very good experience. Professional and nice staff. Thank you! - Elisa Cifuentes

Everything you read about this outfit being ethical, honourable and reliable is true - we were so confused with the choice of different cage diving operators on the market, but MD have clearly earned their reputation, so would recommend without hesitation. Perhaps we might offer some more important practical info to assist potential customers... What to wear? It's wet on the boat, but not stupidly wet or dirty or 'chummy'. Your good shoes and clothes won't get ruined, but wear sensible shoes. There's plenty of shade if you need it, but the fairer-skinned might want to take long pants. Rubber long-sleeved anoraks are provided for warmth and protection against wet. Towels are provided, water and drinks and nibbles are provided - you don't need to take provisions. The wetsuits really ARE clean and dry, and the masks are VERY good quality! Because the ecology of the region has shifted, you probably won't see a Great White (the honest operators are upfront about this!) but you WILL see a whole bunch of big Copper sharks (a dozen or more circling, snapping, breaking the surface on our visit) and stingrays and you WILL enjoy an exciting day out like no other. If you choose the 8am dive, your pick up from Cape Town will be around 4/5am. If you choose the 11am dive, pick up will be 8am. Depending on the time of the dive, breakfast and 'brunch' is offered when you get to Gansbaii - the international rules of politeness mean that pretty much nobody seems to bother with this when they're waiting for their day to start - eat before you're picked up OR wait for the post-dive soup & bread which, because everyone is relaxed by then, EVERYONE piles into! The seasickness thing that gets flagged up a lot - you're on the water in a gently-lolling boat for 3 to 4 hours, and that's when it hits some people - but if you're a reasonably good sailor, there's nothing too drastic about this trip... you'll suffer worse sea conditions on the IoW ferry! This is an amazing, relaxing, well-run day out with very friendly, responsible and serious operators - if you don't pin your hopes on seeing a Great White and you're happy to experience just-as-big sharks behaving naturally in the wild a foot away from you, you'll have an absolute blast with Marine Dynamics! https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUserReviews-g665841-d1985812-r554539762-Marine_Dynamics-Kleinbaai_Gansbaai_Overberg_District_Western_Cape.html# - susan harrison
